Another covered transporter from Boniface.

Based on the V Tech RT 60 body this transporter was built specifically to transport Leeds based Optare's new Alero bus.

The body is 8.3m long and can carry the current 7.2m Alero and the forthcoming 8.0m version too. With a 5.4 tonne payload on the Mercedes 1323 chassis the vehicle has payload to spare.  The 5 degree approach angle ensures that even with the air suspension down the bus can still be loaded.

Also supplied by Boniface was a 7.0m long 3.5 tonne matching covered trailer.  When not delivering new Alero buses the Mercedes is used with the trailer to transport bus shells and components from Optare's Leeds factory to their Rotherham plant.

Optare's Technical Director, Glenn Saint, said : 'The Boniface/VTech combination was chosen for its payload, simplicity and build quality'

Boniface have recently manufactured this accident unit for Car and Commercial, Northern Ireland

Boniface have recently manufactured this accident unit for Car and Commercial, a long established company operating from their base in Bangor, Northern Ireland. The chassis was converted to a 6 X 2 configuration before installation of a 10 tonne capacity slidebed with hydraulically extending loading ramps, Hiab lorry loader crane, and the Standarmatic heavy duty second vehicle lift.

Uel Hardy, the proprietor of Car and Commercial, was looking for a versatile outfit that enabled him to undertake a range work including the transportation on the bed of vehicles up to 10 tonnes, the loading of ambulances with low departure angles, the ramps on the back combined with the air suspension of the host chassis provide good loading characteristics. The lorry loading crane has accessories to enable total lifts of cars and vans and the second vehicle lift, capable of picking up 5 tonnes when fully extended, can be used to lift and tow vehicles up to mid range commercials.
